SAWDUST GANG
We started the Sawdust Gang in 1988 when I was President of the
Charleston Telephone Pioneers Life Member Club. Until we stopped in
2005 when age caught up with us we had built two houses and added
two rooms on homes in Alderson and Mullens, WV for the Make-A-Wish
Foundation and we built handicap ramps all over the Kanawha Valley.
We started with a crew of approximately 20 men, who were both
retired craft and management and worked well as a team.
The CWA Handicap Ramp built in August 2007 at the local was our last
job. It was badly needed. Those who worked on the CWA Handicap
Ramp included Dick Webb, Roy Phalen, Ted Bledsoe, Bill Crosier, P.J.
Midkiff and myself, Elwood Brown.
As Chairman of this special group, I give tremendous thanks to all
of them---they are special in my heart forever and friends for life.
---Elwood Brown
